Description
Description

The Allosaurus is a carnivorous theropod dinosaur that lived during the late Jurassic period. Its name, which translates to ”different lizard”, is in reference to its unique concave vertebrae. As a large bipedal predator, the Allosaurus had a large skull with many sharp, serrated teeth. It had powerful hindlimbs and a long muscular tail, with smaller forelimbs in comparison. With these physical characteristics, the Allosaurus was at the top of the food chain with a diet that included herbivorous dinosaurs like ornithopods, stegosaurids, and sauropods. The species was first discovered in 1877 by Othniel Charles Marsh, a paleontologist.
