Description
Description

The Maiasaura is a large herbivorous hadrosaurid dinosaur that lived in the Upper Cretaceous Period. The first fossils were found in 1978, but the genus was named in 1979, and they lived in the area covered by the state of what is now Montana, US. The name, Maisaura, which means ”good mother reptile” or ”good mother lizard” in Latin, is in reference to the find of nests with eggs, embryos, and young animals in a nesting colony; this shows that Maiasura fed its young while they were in the nest. Young animals were thought to walk on their hind legs, and adults were thought to walk on all fours.
