Description
Description

The Prairie Falcon (Falco mexicanus) is a falcon that lives in the arid open countries, alpine tundras, shortgrass prairies, and high deserts of North America. They can be found in southern Canada through the western United States, and into northern Mexico. The plumage is a warm gray-brown above with a pale mottling below. The primary wing feathers are the darkest, and the rump and tail are the lightest. The Prairie Falcon mostly eats small mammals and small to medium-sized birds that are caught in flight, and as opportunistic predators, they will sometimes take larger birds.
