Description
Description

The subAntarctic Macquarie island is the ideal place to find the Royal Penguin (Eudyptes schlegeli). The name "Royal" comes from the bright yellow plumes on its head, almost resembling a crown. The dorsal side of the Royal penguin is black, while the ventral side is white. It also has black crowns and may show white patches on its rump. The cheeks and throat are white and gracefully merge with the white on its underside. The feet are bright pink, but the soles and heels are black. Its bill is large, red-brown, while eyebrows are orange-yellow. The white chin and face distinguish it from the macaroni penguin.
