Description

The Spruce Grouse (Falcipennis canadensis) also known as the Canada Grouse, is medium-sized and differs from one another in plumage and tail patterns. The male Spruce Grouse has gray back with black underside with a red patch of bare skin called the ‘eyebrow comb’. The female is either brown or marbled gray. The Spruce Grouse is native to the mountains and forests of North America. A Spruce Grouse forages the ground for food like small plants, fungi, and insects. It can store up to 10% of its body weight in food, digesting it when it is at safety or during the night.
