Typically designed with high degree of adjustability based on individual ergonomic preferences and the height and stature of the user, office chairs are usually capable of rotating a full 360 degrees, rolling on casters, and can adjust the heights of both the seat and the arms. Office chairs are further specialized for different office needs that range from task chairs for short term usage, mid-back chairs with greater back support, and executive chairs with full back and head support. High-end office chairs are ergonomically designed to comfortably support a user for longer periods of time.

Why do office chairs have wheels?

Office chairs have wheels for a variety of reasons, but the most important reason is for the ease of mobility around the office without standing—a design feature originally implemented by Charles Darwin to move around his laboratory. Most office chairs today have five legs for improved stability when moving on the wheels.

What is lumbar support in office chairs?

Lumbar support in office chairs refers to the form of support given to the lower back. Lumbar support is built into the shape of the office chair and is designed to be pushed flush against the small of the back when sitting in order to keep the spine in natural alignment.

How high should a desk chair be?

Desk chairs should be set to a height just below the height of your knee cap when standing. Setting your desk chair to this height allows your feet to be flat on the floor and your knees to be comfortably and ergonomically bent at a 90° angle.

The Caper Stacking Chair is a simple, light weight, stackable office chair; the chair is made out of molded polypropylene which has been ergonomically shaped to offer flexibility and support. The Caper Stacking chair was designed by industrial designer Jeff Weber in 1999 and was the recipient of a NeoCon Gold Award for task seating.

The Caper Stacking Chair has an overall height of 32” (81 cm), width of 24.25” (62 cm), and depth of 24” (61 cm). The seat height of the Caper Stacking Chair is adjustable between 17.5” (44 cm) with arms set at 26.25” (67 cm) overall.

The chair was designed in 2017 by Studio 7.5, a Berlin-based design team with a focus on freedom of movement.

The Mid-Back Cosm Chair has an overall height of 38.9”-45.5” (99-116 cm), width of 26.75” (68 cm), and depth of 26.75” (68 cm). The seat height of the Mid-Back Cosm Chair is adjustable between 14.8”-21.4” (38-54 cm) with arms set at 7.3”-11.7” (19-30 cm) above the seat.
