Description
Description

The first thing you will probably see in the Steenbok (Raphicerus campestris) is its small statue and lack of a tail. This is in southern and eastern Africa, where some communities call it steinbok or steinbuck. Males have straight, smooth horns. The back coat of the steenbok can be rufous or fawn while the chin, throat, and belly are white. The ears are large. You can find it in semi-desert habitats, stony savannas, and even open plains. It is a browser and is independent of water. The Steenbok is diurnal but during hotter months it turns nocturnal. You can find it in pairs or small grazing groups.
