Video Games
Video games are played on televisions or computers. They are an electronic game that requires a gamer to interact with the computer interface to generate visual feedback. They became popular in the 1980s. Often video games have a task to complete. Pacman is an example of an early video game whereby the objective is to gain as many points as possible by controlling the Pacman to eat different fruits, dots and blue ghosts. As visual technology developed, so did video games. They now can be very realistic and very complex.
The first video game was a simple tennis game that was created in October of 1958 by physicist William Higinbotham. This first game would become very similar to the 1970s video game known as Pong. The first video game became popular at the Brookhaven National Laboratory open house.
While it is widely believed that video games are bad for you, they do offer some benefits as they promote healthy brain stimulation, help in the development of problem-solving skills, and provide a form of stress relief. Video games can also improve manual dexterity, social skills, and eye vision.
Video games are considered an e-sport or electronic sport. This classification has been given in recent years as e-sports have become much more popular. While some don’t consider video games a sport, more and more organizations have created their teams and involved e-sports as part of the athletic department.
