Thomas Edison was an American inventor and businessman that is acknowledged as the United States’ greatest inventor. Thomas Edison is credited with developing many devices within various fields that include electric power generation, mass communication, sound recording, and motion pictures. Thomas Edison developed hearing problems and deafness at the age of 12 which impacted his work ethic and inventions. Most famously, he created the early versions of the electric light bulb that changed the modern industrialized world. Thomas Edison held a record number of 1,903 patents in total. Thomas Edison died on October 18, 1931 at the age of 84.
