Apple iPhone 3G (2nd Gen) - 2008

Set of dimensioned drawings of the Apple iPhone 3G (2nd Gen) measured with height, width, depth, and resolution

The Apple iPhone 3G, the second generation of iPhone, received worldwide anticipation following the successful release of the original iPhone. Its release was set for June 2008. In comparison to its predecessor, the iPhone 3G included two new features: 3G networking and built-in GPS— additions that came with an increase in price. Aesthetically, the iPhone 3G featured a curved back that made the edges thinner, a non-recessed headphone jack, and came in either black or white color ways. Aside from several new changes in hardware, the iPhone 3G introduced to users the App Store, Apple’s distribution platform.

The Apple iPhone 3G (2nd Gen) has height of 4.55” (115.5 mm), width of 2.44” (62.1 mm), depth of .48” (12.3 mm), and weighs 4.7 oz (133 g). The screen size is 3.5” (89 mm) diagonal with a resolution of 480 x 320 px at 163 ppi.
