Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most popular film stars of 1950s Hollywood. Born in London to American parents, she moved with her family in 1939 to Los Angeles. She began acting, and rose to fame in the films Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, Giant, and Suddenly Last Summer. She was offered $1 million dollars (a record for the time) to star in Cleopatra, opposite Richard Burton. They began an affair during filming, and subsequently married, divorced, married and divorced again. They are considered a great love story. Elizabeth Taylor was married seven times. She died, aged 79, in 2011 in California.
