Clint Eastwood was born in San Francisco in 1930. He began his film career in the 1950s and in 1964 he appeared as the titular cowboy in the Western Man with No Name, which became his first box office success. He is known for his work in the Dirty Harry films of the 1970s and 1980s. He is one of the longest working actors still making films today, and is also considered one of the best, having received continuing critical acclaim for his work. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in boxing drama, Million Dollar Baby. He is involved in local politics and was elected the nonpartisan mayor of Carmel-by-the-sea in 1986 in Monterey Beach, California, serving for two years.
