Maz Kanata is the fictional smuggler queen and mysterious spitfire in the Star Wars movies and extended franchise. She’s the owner of a castle on Takodana, well connected with the underworld of smugglers and outlaws, and an old friend of Han Solo’s. She knows more than she usually lets on, and thus offers Rey guidance where she can, as well as giving Rey Luke’s lightsaber. She’s quick with a blaster and doesn’t back down from a fight. More than a thousand years old, she is the oldest being in the Star Wars franchise, usurping Yoda who was the previous record holder.
