Side elevation illustrations of a Beagle in standing and sitting postures

The Beagle, also known as the English Beagle, is a friendly, lovable, and loyal small hound dog ranging in color from lemon to red and white, with many being tri-color. Similar in appearance to the larger Foxhound, the Beagle is a scent dog, originally bred to track hares. Due to its scenting instincts and loyalty, Beagles are now commonly used to sniff out illegal agricultural imports around the world. Not only does the Beagle make a great work dog, but he also makes a fantastic family pet with his merry demeanor and energetic personality who loves playtime.

Dogs are domesticated mammals of the Carnivora order. Descendants of wolves, dogs are the first animals to have been domesticated by humans. Dogs are bred for particular physical and emotional characteristics and are often referred to as ‘man’s best friend’ referring to their high degree of loyalty.
