Description
Description

Superman Pose, or Viparita Shalabhasana, is a beginner to intermediate posture that helps to build strength in the lower back. Superman Pose requires the entire body to be engaged while toning the abs and back and stretching the shoulders and chest. Lower back issues beware and take it easy. Not recommended for pregnancy.

To do Superman Pose, begin on the stomach with feet flat to the floor, keeping the legs together and feet touching but not pressed. Reach the arms out front and on an inhale, lift the limbs while stretching the arms out front and the legs and feet up and back. Engage the torso and balance on the stomach. Breathe deep, exhale, and release to the earth. Repeat, each time bringing more intensity and length to the hold. After a few times, relax and follow up with postures such as Cobra Pose.
