Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)

A series of illustrated yoga poses with men performing the Cobra Pose

Cobra Pose is an intermediate back bend that opens the chest. Cobra Pose is known to strengthen the back, tone the butt and help with sciatica. Cobra is a common alternative to Upward Facing Dog in Sun Salutations.

Collection of outlined drawings of people doing the Cobra Pose

To do Cobra Pose, lay flat on the floor with tops of the feet to the mat. Place the hands near the shoulders flat on the floor. Press the thighs and the tops of the feet to the mat, push through the hands and lift the chest, keep the shoulders back and a slight bend in the arms. Hold up to 30 seconds and release. Follow up with Upward Facing Dog.
