One Legged King Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana)

A series of illustrated yoga poses with men performing the One Legged King Pigeon Pose

One Legged King Pigeon Pose is an advanced posture that opens the chest, hips, and gives a deeps stretch to the quads, groin and neck. Some preparatory postures include Bound Angle, Cobra Pose, Cow Face Pose, and Hero Pose. Yogi’s with ankle or knee injuries or dealing with tight hips or thighs use caution.

To do One Legged King Pigeon Pose, begin on all fours with the knees under the hips and the hands slightly ahead of the shoulders then slide the right knee to meet the hand making the shin parallel to the front of the mat. Slide the left knee up a bit and then bend the leg up to reach back and grab the foot behind the back. The full expression of One Legged King Pigeon Pose is a tough one, as a local Yogi professional for help building up to this posture.
