Standing Split Pose (Urdhva Prasarita Eka Padasana)

A series of illustrated yoga poses with men performing the Standing Split Pose

Standing Split Pose is a standing balance that stretches the quads and hamstrings. A misconception of Standing Split Pose is the focus being how high one can lift the leg. In reality, this posture is about the stretch, not how high the leg is. Yogi’s with ankle, knee, or low back injury use caution.

Collection of outlined drawings of people doing the Standing Split Pose

To do Standing Split Pose, there are a few different ways to get into the posture. The basics of Standing Split Pose are to stand on one foot, bringing the hands to the mat, and lifting the other leg to the sky while bringing the crown of the head towards the mat.
